Today's new beer is:
Grimbergen OptimoBruno
According to our good friends at Wikipedia.org, Grimbergen is the name of a group of abbey beers that were originally brewed by the Norbertine monks in Grimbergen, Belgium sometime starting around 1128. The good brothers were famous for their hospitality, and offered visitors a variety of home brewed beers to choose from with their (probably extremely bare) room. Sign me up for that kind of hospitality.
For those of you who are interested, the Norbertine monks were followers of Saint Norbert of Xanten (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norbert_of_Xanten). Kind of a boring saint - most interesting thing he did was resist the Antipope, far as I can tell. Oh, and brew some beer.
Recommendation: I would say - go Corsendonk Brune for your brown abbey-ale needs instead. This one was a little too far on the sweet side of its bitter-sweet promise for me. Not so "optimo".
